Heat Loss Pipe Formula | Calculating Heat Loss | Process Heating

Determine BTU/HR loss per linear foot of pipe.
Obtain value of fuel ($/MMBTU).
Determine hours/year operating time of process (HRS/YR).
Establish energy conversion efficiency (%).
Calculate annual fuel saving (MMBTU/YR) and cost saving ($/YR).

Cost saving ($/YR) = (MMBTU/YR) x ($/MMBTU)
Example:
Consider the following length of pipe:

Using the procedure described:
The energy savings per linear foot is 4900 BTU/HR-L.F.

Annual cost savings = 4410 x 6.2 = 27342 ($/YR)
